No Mughal museum in Yogi’s UP, to be renamed after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

The decision by Yogi government is aimed at shedding baggage of the past and celebrating the true national icons like Shivaji Maharaj, as this will inculcate feeling of nationalism and patriotism among people.

New Delhi: In a decision that may ignite political row, the Uttar Pradesh government has given nod to change the name of Mughal Museum in Agra to Chhatrapati Shivarji Maharaj Museum.

The decision was taken by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday , during a review meeting with city administration officials via video conferencing.

The Museum being constructed at around 1 kilometre distance from the Eastern Gate of Taj Mahal. Its construction began in 2016 and was supposed to be completed by 2017, however it is yet to see completion. Renowned firm David Chipperfield Architects along with Noida-based Studio Archohm are working on it to create a state-of-the art museum in the city.

CM Yogi Adityanath -

“There is a need to promote subjects which are the pride of the nation, except for the symbols of the mentality of slavery. Yogi said that Mughals cannot be our heroes, instead Shivaji Maharaj is our hero,” Yogi Adityanath said.
CM Yogi said that the UP government is going to nurture nationalist ideas.

The museum will be showcase artefacts and documents related to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj along with history of Mughal rule in India. The museum will also show Chhatrapati Shivaji ‘s connection to Agra and his tale of exile.
