Palghar lynching: 3 policemen dismissed from service for not saving Sadhus from violent mob

Uddhav government has dismissed 3 policemen in Palghar lynching case. The dreadful incident happened on the night of April 16, when two sadhus Kalpavriksha Giri Maharaj and Sushil Giri Maharaj were brutally killed by rampaging mob.

New Delhi: After months of outrage over brutal killing of 2 Sadhus in Palghar district of Maharashtra by a rampaging mob, the state government has dismissed 3 policemen from service, with immediate effect.

The dismissed police personnel were namely Assistant Police inspector Anandrao Kale, assistant sub inspector Ravi Salunke and head constable Naresh Dhodi. Salunkhe, 57, and Dhodi, 45, have been compulsorily retired while Kale, 43, has been dismissed with immediate effect, said Sachin Navadkar, Palghar police spokesperson.

The dreadful incident happened on the night of April 16, when two sadhus (Kalpavriksha Giri Maharaj and Sushil Giri Maharaj) and their driver were going from Mumbai to attend a funeral in Gujarat`s Surat amidst lockdown.

A mob in Palghar took them child lifter, dragged them out of vehicles and attacked them with stones, sticks, and sickles. The trio succumbed to the grievous injuries, sparking off nationwide anger.

It may be noted that the 3 sacked policemen are among 5 suspended ones, who were sacked by Uddhav Thackeray-led government after the latter came under sharp attack from the opposition over the conduct of the police personnel.

Palghar lynching --

It is to be noted that CID is currently probing this matter and 150 people have been arrested so far for their alleged involvement in this case. The CID has filed 2 chargesheets in this case.

The two chargesheets run into over 11,000 pages. However, the CID also filed 3rd chargesheet this month on August 6 against 47 people. They have been booked for attacking a police team which went to probe the violent attack on Hindu seers.
