What is Raksha Bandhan?

Raksha Bandhan is that auspicious period of the year when the bond of brothers and sisters is celebrated. According to the Hindu rituals, on this day sisters tie a sacred thread-Rakhi on the brothers’ wrists and pray for their good and healthy life, while in return brothers shower them with presents and promises them to always be by their side.

Raksha Bandhan is celebrated every year in the Shravana month during full moon day or Purnima day. This year, this day is being celebrated on August 11 and on 12th as well.
