New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to Indian Women’s hockey team and lauded Women in Blue’s performance in the Tokyo Olympics.

Lauding their stellar show in Tokyo Olympics, PM Modi patted their back via video conference for scripting history in the world’s biggest sporting extravaganza.

Prime Minister sought to console the team and lift their spirits. Women’s hockey team lost the bronze medal match against Great Britain, earlier in the day. PM Modi appreciated the astounding performance of Women’s hockey team.

The women players of Hockey team got emotional and also broke down during the telephonic conversation with PM Modi.


Indian Women’s hockey team stormed into semi-final and were on way to clinch a medal but got outclassed by opponent team. Today, the spirited team fought for bronze medal but Britain got the better of Team India.

Sjoerd Marijne, head coach of women’s Hockey team said that despite the loss, the women’s team has done commendable job at Olympics.

He expressed hope that stories of these women will inspire the future generations and this was just a step towards next big leap.

“Last match, we played such high-pressure match 2 years ago in the Olympic qualifiers. Team needs more of these matches,” said Sjoerd Marijne.
