New Delhi: At least 17 people have been killed in a major fire that broke out at a chemical factory located in an industrial area in Pune district on Monday, officials said.
A total of 17 bodies, out of which 15 were women, have been recovered from the site. Cooling and search operation are still underway, Devendra Potphode, Chief Fire Officer, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Pune told media.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs each from the PMNRF for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to fire at an industrial unit in Pune. Rs 50,000 would be given to those injured in the incident.

PM Modi condoles death of chemical plant workers
PM Modi also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from the PMNRF for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to lightning in various parts of West Bengal. Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured.
PM Modi wrote, “My thoughts are with all those who lost their near and dear ones due to lightning in parts of West Bengal. May the injured recover at the earliest.”
