New Delhi: Sonu Nigam is trending on social media on Friday on Twitter. However, the name of the playback singer is doing rounds on Twitter under two different hashtags. The first hashtag used by fans is #TraitorSonuNigam while the second one is in support of the singer, #SonuNigamDeshkiShan.
Why do people call Nigam a traitor?
Under the hashtag, Traitor Sonu Nigam, many people shared several photographs of Sonu with two persons namely Mr Rehan Siddiqui and Mr Rakesh Kaushal (alias Rocky).
Reportedly, the story starts when BMC chief Iqbal Singh connected Sonu Nigam to a person namely Rajender Singh Pal, and requested him to perform at a concert overseas.
Rajender Singh Pal is said to be having experience of two decades of handling events and roadshows of Bollywood celebrities such as Anupam Kher, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and others.
Rajender Singh Pal alleged in his statement that he resisted working with Rocky (Mr. Rakesh Kaushal) and Mr. Rehan Siddiqui because they have been banned by the Ministry of State for Home Affairs, Govt of India. The duo was recommended by ”Mr. Nigam to perform at a concert overseas”.
Notably, Rakesh Kaushal and Rehan Siddiqui are the two persons who were ”blacklisted” by the government for their alleged anti-India activities in April 2020.
Rehan Siddiqui is a US-based Pakistani.
This was the reason many people on social media called Nigam a traitor for working with anti-India persons.

In the evening, many fans of Sonu Nigam took to Twitter to support him under the hashtag Sonu Nigam Desh ki Shan. They shared the work of the singer for India with his photos.
