New Delhi: Did you know that Smriti Irani had contested in the 1998 Miss India pageant? In one of her old interviews to a news channel she had talked about the journey from participating in Miss India pageant to working in ‘Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Babh Thi’ to joining politics under the leadership of PM Modi.
She had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2003 after becoming a household name

When asked about participating in Miss India, the politician said that she had gone to Mumbai after seeing the advertisement on newspaper.
She said that the real challenge came when she realised that she needed money to strive in Mumbai and how she had called her father and asked him to give her money.
She said that she always wanted to work on her own for her survival.

Talking further she said that her father had said that he will not giver her the money as he was not very happy with the purpose behind it.
What was the barter deal between Smriti and her Father?
Irani further said that her father had said that he will give her the money only if she could return the money in one year or else she would have to marry the person that he would say.
She said that she got engaged a day before she completed the duration of one year and on the last day she had signed the contract of ‘Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Babh Thi.’
Smriti said that her parents wanted her to get married as they thought she would have never got time from her work.
She also said that she was a kind of girl who took her own decisions since her early days.
Talking about audition “Tulsi”
She said that nobody believed her during the audition. Smriti said that the guard did not allow her inside.
