Toxic foam floats on Yamuna, Politicians engage in blame-game; Netizens do fact check

Delhi Jal Board Vice-Chairman Raghav Chadha claimed that the state government was committed towards its cleaning as promised in elections.

New Delhi: As the Yamuna river in national capital becomes a spectacle of dirt and filth, the political blamegame has begun over ‘who polluted the river?’ Allegations, counter-allegations and mudslinging has begun much like the way it happens for Delhi’s toxic air especially during year end. Every year in winters, Delhi turns into gas chamber but all that one hears is political bickering and blamegame.

As images & videos of people taking ‘holy dip’ in the river carrying toxic foams emerged, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari rushed to the spot and did a reality check. He expressed deep shock over such insult to Chhath devotees and also tore into Kejriwal government for callous and indifferent administration.

The AAP MLA and Delhi Jal Board Vice-Chairman Raghav Chadha, however brushed aside charges and claimed that the state government was committed towards its cleaning as promised in elections.

“Toxic foam found floating on the Yamuna river was a “gift” to Delhi from the governments in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana,” said Raghav Chadha.

“The foam in the Yamuna is at Okhla Barrage area, which comes under Uttar Pradesh irrigation government, it’s Uttar Pradesh government’s responsibility. But like every year, they failed this year too. The polluted water is not Delhi’s, it’s a ‘gift’ to Delhi by Uttar Pradesh and Haryana government,” said Chadha.

Netizens do fact check, share VIDEO of ‘pollution spot’

A thick layer of toxic foam has been floating on Yamuna river, making it highly unhygienic and harmful for people to take bath.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari shared a video on how the Najafgarh drain was contributing to Yamuna’s pollution.

The high level of contamination forced some netizens to visit the spot from where the dirt and filth was being released into the river.

A user shared video of the sewage treatment plant from where dirty water was released into the river while another collated videos of Kejriwal’s promises of cleaning the river, year after year.
