Unlock 4.0: UP govt relaxes weekend lockdown, markets to remain closed on Sunday only

After MHA issued unlock 4 guidelines, the UP government has lifted the lockdown on Saturdays but decided to continue it only on Sundays, though essential services will still be allowed.

New Delhi: In a major relief for common people and small traders, the Uttar Pradesh government has lifted the lifted the weekend lockdown in the state on Saturdays. However, this will observe complete closure on Sunday.

Earlier, UP CM Yogi Adityanath had said that all markets in state will remain shut on Saturday and Sunday for sanitisation and fogging as the state observes a bi-weekly lockdown.

However, after MHA issued unlock 4 guidelines, the UP government has lifted the lockdown on Saturdays but decided to continue it only on Sundays, though essential services will still be allowed.

According to an official release, all shops will remain open from 9 AM to 9 PM on weekdays.

UP’s #Unlock 4.0 guidelines

UP govt announced the Unlock 4 guidelines on Sunday night, allowing more activity outside the containment zones, keeping it in sync with Centre’s guidelines.

“Now, a district magistrate cannot impose any lockdown outside containment zones in the respective districts. However, the weekend statewide restrictions introduced by the state government, as they were announced on July 14, will continue till further orders,” said UP chief secretary RK Tiwari in the guidelines that he issued on Sunday night.

* Metro trains will be allowed to resume services from September 7 in a graded manner.

* Social and religious congregations of up to 100 people are also permissible from September 21. However, schools, colleges and other educational and coaching institutions will remain closed for students till September 30.

* Students of classes 9 to 12 may be permitted to visit their schools in areas outside the containment zones voluntarily for taking guidance from their teachers.

*50 percent of teaching/non-teaching staff could be called to the schools for online education/consultation from September 21.

*Till September 20, a wedding can have not more than 30 guests while last-rites/funerals cannot have more than 20 people. However, after September 20, the new limit of ‘not more than 100 persons’ would be introduced.
