UP: 55,956 litres of illicit liquor seized by Excise Dept, in special drive during Diwali

“A total of 2,297 cases were registered across the state in which 55,955.90 litres of illicit liquor has been recovered and 5,67,254.00 kg lahan used in preparing illicit liquor has been destroyed at the spot,” UP Excise department told media persons.

New Delhi: In a special drive against manufacture, sale and smuggling of illicit liquor, the Excise department seized 55,956 litres of liquor during the Diwali festival in Uttar Pradesh.

“During days preceding and after Diwali, a total of 2,297 cases were registered across the state in which 55,955.90 litres of illicit liquor has been recovered and 5,67,254.00 kg lahan used in preparing illicit liquor has been destroyed at the spot,” UP Excise department told media persons.

“Also, 782 persons involved in the illegal act have been arrested and 23 vehicles seized, UP govt spokesperson said in a press release.

In Mirzapur district, Excise department and UP Police carried out joint raids at village Ram Sarovar, in which 200 liters of illicit spirit, 450 quarters of illicit liquor in 10 cartons, 780 fake rappers, 500 empty bottles and 3200 capsules were recovered while 02 persons were arrested and an FIR was lodged in police station Chunar Kotwali.

In Rampur district, 2 persons were arrested along with 8 cartons of McDowel No 01 whisky, 8 quarters of illegal liquor, 60 empty bottles, 6000 capsules, 80 liters of illicit liquor and one Easter car .

In Fatehpur distirct, illegal liquor was seized along with illegal material at the county liquor shop Chandpur and an FIR was registered against 3 persons, including the licensee of the country liquor shop.

In Pilibhit, illegal liquor, cover, QR code and color were recovered and 02 persons were arrested.

During the enforcement drive in district Jhansi, 6 persons were arrested and 339 liters of illegal liquor, 5000 kg lahan and 4 motor cycles were seized.

In Gautam Buddha Nagar during a raid conducted in a house situated in Hijarsi Colony, 695 quarters of Haryana made liquor in 14 cartons were recovered and 1 person was arrested on the spot.

In Meerut district, 28 boxes of illegal country liquor were seized from Sisauli market and an FIR was registered against 2 persons.

In coming days, UP government is likely to strengthen drive against illicit liquor to eradicate manufacture, sale and smuggling of illegal liquor in the state.
