
New Delhi: Electioneering for the urban local body elections in Uttar Pradesh is on going on at feverish pitch with parties pulling out all stops to gauge people’s opinion & win their support for the crucial elections, ahead of mega showdown in 2024.
The UP civic polls will be held in 2 phases on May 4 & May 11 and the results will be declared on May 13, alongwith Karnataka Assembly elections. The urban local body polls holds significance as it will give a key lowdown on public opinion in the urban voter base of country’s biggest state, which sends 80 MPs to the Parliamaent.
The two key rivals Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) have put up high-decibel campaign via election rallies & roadshows while another stakeholder Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is relying more on door-to-door campaign & street-corner meetings.
Number of Mayor & corporators
In the ensuing municipal elections of Uttar Pradesh, thousands of candidates are in the fray for about 14,684 psosts including Mayor, corporators & Nagar Panchayats. There are total of 17 Mayor post, 1420 corporators post, 199 Nagar Parishad chairperson, 5327 Nagar Palika Parishad & 544 Nagar Panchayat chairpersons. Out of these, a fair share of seats are reserved for women nominees. 5 Mayor seats are also earmarked for women and they including Lucknow, Kanpur and Ghaziabad, Agra for women (SC) and Firozabad.
How to take out Voter’s slip online:
The elections have gone high-tech and people are now able to access their voter ID card & voters slips, unlike earlier.
Those eligible to cast their ballot can check their names in voters list online and Voters who are eligible to cast their vote can check their names in the voters’ list and can take its print out.
Step by Step procedure below:
1. Visit official website of UP State Election Commission – https://sec.up.nic.in/site/index.aspx
2. Check for VOTER SERVICES section under ULB elction-2023 tab. Click it, a new page will open
3. Click on Search ULB voters. A new page will open.
4. Fill up the vacant space with required information including your name, type of civic body, your relatives details & more.
A window will open showing your voting centre details. Download it & take the print out of Voter’s slip for further assessment.
The first phase of the civic polls will be held in 37 districts while 2nd phase will see 38 districts heading to polls. More than 4 crore people will be eligible to vote this time, a rise of 96.33 lakh as compared to 2017.
