UP: Over 1,678 anti-romeo squad teams at work to ensure safety of girls and women

In seven commissionerates of the state, 265 Anti-Romeo Squads were deployed, consisting of 347 male police personnel and 591 female police personals.

Lucknow: To ensure the safety of girls and women in Uttar Pradesh, the Anti-Romeo Squad of the Yogi government ran a special campaign to crackdown on eve-teasers and other wrongdoers across the state. This six-month-long campaign involved active participation of 1,678 Anti-Romeo squads, comprising 3,324 male and 4,090 female police personnel.

These squads conducted extensive inspections at 30,76,246 locations throughout the state, which included various settings such as schools and public areas like intersections, markets, malls, parks, and other public places.

Over 1,34,33,261 persons were inspected at these locations while 7,563 cases were registered and 9,512 persons were arrested during the six-month drive. A total of 48,92,991 persons were released with a warning. The Anti-Romeo Squad took action at zonal and commissionerate level across Uttar Pradesh.

DGP Vijay Kumar said that in line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s commitment to ensuring a secure environment for women and daughters in the state, the Anti Romeo Squad conducts campaigns from time to time aimed at taking action against miscreants involved in crime against women. In this sequence, a special campaign was conducted by the squad across the state in the last 6 months.

Over 1,413 Anti-Romeo squads were deployed across eight zones, comprising 2,977 male police personnel and 3,499 female police personnel. These squads checked 25,40,012 locations across the state to identify the accused. These include schools, public places like intersections, markets, malls, parks and other places.

A total of 97,75,616 persons were checked at these locations. During this period, 7,097 cases were registered, while 8,951 individuals were arrested while 44,31,216 were cautioned and subsequently released. Anti Romeo Squad took maximum action in the Agra zone, where 12,73,120 persons were inspected across 4,74,493 locations, resulting in the registration of 637 cases and the arrest of 1,114 persons. Similarly, the Bareilly zone ranks second, Lucknow third, Varanasi fourth and Gorakhpur zone fifth in this context.

In seven commissionerates of the state, 265 Anti-Romeo Squads were deployed, consisting of 347 male police personnel and 591 female police personals. These squads conducted inspections at a total of 5,36,234 locations within the state to identify potential offenders. They checked over 36,57,645 individuals at these locations. Over this period, 466 cases were registered, leading to the arrest of 561 people, while 4,61,775 received warnings and were released.

The Agra Commissionerate saw the most significant action by the Anti-Romeo Squad, with 5,01,165 individuals checked across 1,35,752 locations while 60 cases were registered and 92 persons were arrested. Similarly, the Lucknow Commissionerate ranked second in terms of activity, followed by Kanpur at third, Gautam Buddha Nagar fourth, and Ghaziabad Commissionerate at fifth.
