Bhupendra Patel, the man who led BJP to a landslide victory in Gujarat Assembly Elections 2022 is all set to be reelected as the Chief Minister of Gujarat soon. Someone who became the Chief Minister in the middle of the term after the resignation of former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani to someone who has now become the face of Gujarat BJP, Bhupendra Patel has come a long way. Very few could have done what Patel did as for the case of Gujarat, there’s no other face than Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He is now headed for a second straight win from the Ghatlodia constituency. He is already leading with about 2 lakhs votes over his rival contestant Am Yagnik from Congress.

Who is Bhupendra Patel?
Patel Bhupendra Bhai Rajnikant or Bhupendra Patel is the current Chief Minister of Gujarat. He became the first-time MLA from the Ghatlodia constituency in the Gujarat Assembly Polls 2017 defeating Congress candidate Shashikant Patel by more than one lakh votes. This was the highest winning margin in the elections. He was appointed as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2021 after the former CM Vijay Rupani tendered his resignation.
He was appointed as the CM at a time that was very uncertain for BJP. CMs of several states stepped down simultaneously in the same year. This included Yediyurappa of Karnataka, Tirath Singh Rawat and Trivendra Rawat in Uttarakhand, and also Vijay Rupani in Gujarat.
How did he become the Chief Minister of Gujarat?
Bhupendra Patel has never held any ministerial position before becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He won the assembly election on Ghatlodia constituency for the very first time in 2017 and he was made the in 2021. Just like PM Modi, his election to the post of CM came as a surprise to many. Narendra Modi was sworn in as Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, and later became an MLA on February 24, 2002, as he won the Rajkot seat in a by-poll.
His life before the 2017 Assembly elections
Bhupendra Patel, 59 has been in various positions in the party’s municipal committees. He has been the president of Memnagar Municipality in Ahmedabad, and the chairman of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s standing committee and Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority. He is considered to be close to former CM of Gujarat Anandiben Patel who was the CM of Gujarat from 2012 till she was appointed as the governor.
His life before he came into politics
Bhupendra Patels hold a diploma in Civil Engineering. He belongs to the Kadva sub-caste of the Patidar community. He has also been associated with several social works in Ahmedabad. Patel is a trustee of the Sardardham Vishwa Patidar Kendra. It is an organization that is dedicated to the socio-economic development of the Patidar community.
