Asia Cup: 17-member Indian squad announced; KL Rahul & Shreyas Iyer return, Tilak Verma a ‘surprise pick’

This 17-member squad is likely to remain the same for upcoming Cricket World Cup 2023, as there will be hardly any room or time for change in between the two tournaments.

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) on Monday announced the Team India squad for the Asia Cup tournament, kicking off from August 31, 2023.

The names of 17-member squad was announced by chief selector Ajit Agarkar. It will be followed up by a press conference by captain Rohit Sharma & chief selector.

Rohit Sharma will be leading the Men in Blue while Hardik Pandya will be the vice-captain of team. A couple of players are returning to the Squad for the much-awaited tournament, either after a period of rest or injuries.

The biggest names returning to the squad are Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul from injury layoffs. Other big names include Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.

Tilak Verma is another crucial player to make it the squad, for the ODI tournament. His heroics in the T20 against West Indies in his maiden series, apparently made him the favourite of selectors.
