Mohammed Siraj, the talented bowler played his first international game on his home ground in Hyderabad on Wednesday, January 18th. It was a delightful sight watching the young player’s family sitting in the stadium to watch him play live. As India prepares to go for the World Cup in 2023, the performance of newcomers is crucial to their chance of getting shortlisted for the final team. And this right-arm speedster has bowled the audiences over!

Siraj debuted in International T20 in 2017 against the current competitor, New Zealand. His ODI debut was in 2019 and his Test debut was in 2020 against the champion team of Australia. All and all Siraj has played 15 Test matches, 20 ODI matches and 8 T20I matches. However, this match was special as he played on his home ground for the first time in an international game. He played the first of the three-match ODI series against the New Zealand team led by Tom Latham, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad.

Beginning the match in great form, Siraj bowled exceptionally well and dismissed the Kiwi batsman Devon Conway on the 4th ball of the 6th over. Becoming his first maiden International wicket on his home ground. He bowled three balls that seamed away, then a short-length ball on the 4th ball of the over-pitching outside the leg stump. A failed pull shot attempt by Conway landed the ball right in the hands of the fine leg, Kuldeep Yadav. Making this memory remarkable as his parents looked over with joy and pride in their eyes!
