India becomes number 1 side in all formats, ICC shares special poster

India becomes the number 1 ODI side after defeating Australia in the first ODI, in Mohali.

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team created history on Friday, as they became the top-ranked team in ICC rankings across all formats at the same time.

India is now only the second side ever to achieve this historical achievement in the history of men’s cricket.

South Africa, was the only other side to achieve this historical achievement back in 2012.

ICC has released a special poster to congratulate India on its iconic achievement. They shared the poster through their social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) poat.

India’s entry into the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, can be ensured if they managed to win at least one of their two remaining ODIs against the men in baggy green.

India could’ve reached this historical feat at the recently concluded Asia Cup, but their last-ball defeat against Bangladesh resulted in their wait being extended till the first ODI against Australia.

Australia’s loss now means that they can’t reach the top spot in ODIs before the start of the premier ODI tournament next year. However, they can spoil the Men in Blue’s party by winning the next two ODIs of the series, which will result in Pakistan entering the World Cup as the top-ranked spot.

Indian players are also ruling the ICC individual rankings at the current time.

In the batsmen’s ranking, Surya Kumar Yadav is sitting comfortably at the top spot in T20Is, while Subhman Gill is chasing the Pakistani skipper hard for the top spot, with only 43 rating points separating him from the top ODI spot.

In the bowling department, India holds the flag in two out of the three formats with Md. Siraj and R. Ashwin hold the top spots in ODI and Test rankings, respectively. Ravindra Jadeja is also chasing his countryman in the test ranking, currently holding the third spot.

In the all-rounder’s department, Ravindra Jadeja is holding the fort in the test rankings, with Ashwin and Axar chasing him at second and fifth spot, respectively. Hardik Pandya is India’s best all-rounder in limited-over cricket, holding second in sixth position in the all-rounder’s ranking in T20Is and ODIs, respectively.

India will play their second ODI against Australia, on Sunday, September 24.
