IPL 2021: Kings XI Punjab to be renamed as Punjab Kings ahead of auction

Kings XI Punjab is one of the underperforming teams in the cricket league and has never won a trophy in 13 years of the cricketing extravaganza.

New Delhi: Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), one of the 8 franchisee owners of Indian Premiere League (IPL) teams, is all set to be renamed as Punjab Kings.
Priety Zinta owned franchise will have its named changed before the start of this season i.e. IPL 2021, reports said.

As per Cricbuzz, the franchise has already communicated its decision to the BCCI and has been approved by top cricketing body. An official announcement from the franchise is awaited and is likely by Feb 18 when IPL auction takes place.

The franchise, owned by Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta and Karan Paul, has been one of the underperforming teams in the cricket league and has never won a trophy in 13 years of the cricketing extravaganza.

Anil Kumble has ben retained as the Director of Cricket for IPL 2021 while KL Rahul will continue to lead the franchise.

The franchise has already released Karun Nair, Jagadeesha Suchith, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, James Neesham, Krishnappa Gowtham and Tajinder Singh in the general pool, available for auction.

BCCI Covid-19 guidelines for IPL auction

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a brief quarantine clause for those attending auction on February 18.

“Before checking into their respective rooms, they (those arriving on February 17) will undergo a Rapid Antigen Test followed by an RT-PCR test for COVID-19 at the designated sampling kiosk set up in the hotel by the BCCI’s accredited testing agency. All individuals must quarantine in their respective rooms until results of the RT-PCR tests are available. Typically the reports will be available within 3-4 hours of sample collection,” the advisory sent by BCCI read.
