What is Yo-Yo test?

Yo-Yo Test is a method of checking cricketer or any sportsperson’s fitness level.

In the Yo-Yo test, ‘dreaded cones’ are put at some distance from each other. After the beep, the athlete runs and has to reach either side before next beep comes. He is expected to run to and fro between the two set of cones till beeps continue. Beep keeps on increasing and the athlete is supposed to match with its intensity to prove his fitness.

Notably, different cricket teams have kept different standards for the Yo-Yo test. Currently, Team India has set 16:1 as the qualifying standard which means that each player has to have this speed level.

According to reports, all the players participating in the Cricket World Cup will have to go through a fitness level and medical test before the start of cricket extravaganza. They will be checked & monitored under various parameters including lipid profile, blood sugar (fasting and PP), uric acid, calcium, creatinine and testosterone.
