New Delhi: The race for the finals of the World Test Championship intensifies as three teams come into the fray- South Africa, India and Australia. While the India team has claimed their number 1 position, the Proteas have seen an astronomical rise in the World Test Championship which has catapulted them to the second spot in the WTC table.
The men in Blue will be facing the Aussies in the second test in Adelaide tomorrow while the Kiwis will be facing the English side tomorrow morning. While this might change the final standings, the three-point penalty for England and New Zealand has made it nearly impossible for the black caps to qualify for the WTC Finals.

Injustice for the Black Caps?
England and New Zealand have both received over-rate penalties for their match in the World Test Championship following the first test match in Christchurch. The match ended in defeat for the Kiwis. But more than the result of the match, it was the point deduction which ended even the mathematical possibility of New Zealand reaching the WTC Final.

Meanwhile, England’s penalty adds to previous deductions, totalling 22 points lost in the 2023-25 cycle. This pushed them further down the World Test Championship standings. Both teams were penalised 3 points and were fined 15% of their match fees due to slow over rates.
