Twitter Job Cuts: Elon Musk lays off over 200 employees to curb costs

The recent layoffs have hit engineers, product managers, data scientists, and also those who worked in machine learning and site reliability.

New Delhi: Microblogging site, Twitter reportedly laid off about 10 percent of its remaining workforce, over 200 employees, on Saturday night. This comes as a part of Elon Musk’s ongoing effort to reduce costs after taking over this social media platform in October last year.

The workforce of Twitter has been cut down from about 7,500 employees to roughly 2,000.

According to reports by The New York Times, the workforce at Twitter is smaller by 10 per cent, confirmed people familiar with the matter.

Last week, a report by The Information claimed that Twitter fired over 50 employees from the Sales and Products teams.

Reports said that Twitter made it difficult for employees as they did not let employees communicate with each other.

It was on Saturday (February 27) that several employees found that they were logged out of their corporate email accounts and laptops.

The recent layoffs have hit engineers, product managers, data scientists, and also those who worked in machine learning and site reliability.

Reports also confirmed that Elon Musk fired Esther Crawford, who was responsible for Twitter Blue.  Esther became popular after a picture of her sleeping in the Twitter office had gone viral on social media. She was also considered to be Elon Musk’s loyalist.

In late November last year, Musk told employees that there were no plans to reduce staff. However, mass layoffs at Twitter continue.
