U.K PM Rishi Sunak & Wife Akshata Murthy celebrate Diwali at 10 Downing Street

New Delhi: United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hosted a Special Diwali Event for the Indian Community living in the UK. The Program was held at 10 Downing Street. The event was attended by all the members of the Indian Community. The Prime Minister’s office also released an official statement sending Diwali Wishes to all. The statement read Tonight Prime Minister Rishi Sunak welcomed guests from the Hindu community to Downing Street ahead of Diwali – a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness. Shubh Diwali to everyone across the UK and around the world celebrating this weekend!” Sunak’s office said in a social media post.

The Post had pictures of the Prime Minister along with his wife lighting up Diyas at their residence.  Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is an Indian and is a regular visitor to the temple in Southampton. He also visited the Akshardham Temple in Delhi during the G20 summit.  He also posted a note which reads, “I am a proud Hindu. That’s how I was raised, that’s how I am. We just had Rakshabandhan, so from my sister and my cousin, I have all my Rakhis,” Rishi Sunak had said. He wore a Formal suit while his wife wore bright Pink Kurta with bangles for the ocassion.

Diwali is the Biggest Hindu Festival and is also called the Festival of Lights. The day is celebrated with Diyas and candles and people worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh on this particular day. People wear New Clothes and greet each other with gifts and sweets. It is celebrated after 10 days of the Dussehra Festival.
