New Delhi: After months of lockdown, normalcy has largely been restored but so has the need for social distancing and preventive measures to keep Covid-19 in check.

Auto Industry, which were in bad state for months, are now looking at revival as they believe the need for personal cars may arise in wake of Corona pandemic.

The economic stress has been a dampener on sale and purchase of personal vehicles. So, the car companies are focusing on sale of budgeted and affordable cars which are also user-friendly.

Here is a look at top 5 cars below 5 lakh:

1) Maruti Suzuki Alto

Maruti Suzuki’s all-time best-seller Alto reached another milestone recently when it crossed total sales of 40 lakh units, becoming the first car in the country to do so.

The price of the car and the mileage figures have helped Alto to remain consistent in sales. The current generation of Alto offers a fuel efficiency of 22.05 km/l for the petrol variant and 31.56 km/kg for CNG variant. Another aspects that attracts the buyer is affordability. The car starts just under ₹3 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹4,36 lakh for the top variant.

The car was first launched in September 2000 and was the best-selling car for 16 consecutive years in India.

2) Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

The S-Presso was launched to replace the WagonR as the new tall-boy in town and was sold as India’s first micro-SUV. At Rs 3.71 lakh (ex-showroom) the car gets an infotainment system derived from WagonR.

The car also gets steering mounted controls and power windows at the rear as standard. The S-Presso is powered by the same K10 engine that powered the Alto K10. The engine comes with BS-VI compliance and produces 64 bhp and 90Nm of torque through a 5-speed manual transmission.

3) Datsun Redigo

The company has recently launched discounts on its models to boost car sale.

Datsun launched the Redigo facelift with fresh styling elements and BS6 compliant 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol engine options. The Redigo hatchback attracts benefits of up to Rs 30,000. This includes exchange benefit of up to Rs 15,000, loyalty benefit of Rs 10,000, Pillars of India or medical professional discount of up to Rs 5,000 and 7.99 per cent rate of interest from Nissan/Datsun finance only and is applicable for defined loan amount and tenure.

4) Renault Kwid

The Renault Kwid revolutionized the hatchback segment in the country with its SUV-inspired design, feature-rich cabin, the convenience of AMT and ease of ownership with a host of safety features, which has made it a part of 3.5 lakh happy families in India.

Renault recorded total sales of 6,422 units in July 2020. The car now gets a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay that it shares with the Triber MPV.

5) Hyundai Santro

The new Hyundai Santro comes packed with new age technology including segment-first like 17.64 cm (6.94-inch) touchscreen audio-video system.

Customers can avail a discount of upto Rs 45,000 on purchase on this car.
