CM Yogi congratulates people of UP on Maha Shivratri, urges all to stick to Covid-19 protocols

CM Yogi Adityanath appealed to the people of the state to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols and social distancing norms while propitiating Lord Shiva and conducting various rituals.

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Ji has extended his greetings to the people of the state on the festival of Maha Shivratri. He also said that the festival gives us an opportunity to recommit ourselves to the cause of public welfare.

People all over are devoted to Mahadev, the lord of the lords, he further said and added that various Jyotirlinga’s in the country were a symbol of national unity.

The Chief Minister also informed that adequate arrangements had been made for the festival by the state government and adequate instructions have been issued to district officials that the festival passes off peacefully.

Why is Maha Shivratri celebrated?

Maha Shivratri is also known as the ‘Great night of Lord Shiva. It is one of the Hindu festival which is highly observed by devotees with much fervour.

This year Maha Shivratri 2021 will be celebrated on Thursday (March 11) .

'Maha Shivratri' - the festival of convergence of Shiv and Shakti

Maha Shiratri-this festival is popularly celebrated as the wedding anniversary of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to Puranas, Shivrati is said to be the night when Lord Shiva also known as Bhole Nath saved the human kind by consuming a pot of poison during Samudra Manthan.

According to Shaivism, Maha Shivratri marks the night when Lord Shiva performed the divine dance of creation, preservation and, destruction.

On this day, devotees pray to Bhole Nath by observing- Maha Shivratri fast and throng Shiva temples across the country to offer fruits and milk to the Shivaling.
