Court raps Delhi police on riots probe, says ‘investigation seems targeted towards one end’

The judge made the observations while sending Jamia student Asif Iqbal Tanha, charged under UAPA to judicial custody for 30 days. Tanha was arrested for violent protests at Jamia against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

New Delhi: A city court has pulled up Delhi Police over its investigation into the bloody violence that rocked many areas of North-East Delhi in February this year, The Quint reported.

“Perusal of the case diary reveals a disturbing fact. The investigation seems to be targetted only towards one end. Upon enquiry from Inspector Lokesh and Anil, they have failed to point out what investigation has been carried out so far regarding the involvement of the rival faction,” Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana observed yesterday, the portal said.

The court also asked the senior police personnel to “monitor” the investigation to “ensure a fair investigation”.

Violent riots left city scarred

In February this year, the national capital witnessed many incidents of riots, in which mobs armed with lathis & sharp weapons ran amok on the city streets and indulged in bloody violence and arson.
