New Delhi: Faisal Khan, one of the accused who offered namaz at Nand Baba Temple in Mathura was arrested from Delhi’s Jamia Nagar today, reports said.

A joint team of Delhi and UP police reportedly arrested one of the accused named Faisal Khan near Jamia Gaffar Manzil while other accused Mohammad Chand is yet to be arrested.

On October 30, the duo had allegedly offered namaaz at the Nand Baba Mandir in Mathura without any permission from the temple authorities.

Earlier in the day, UP Police registered an FIR against 4 men after they offered namaz at a temple in Mathura. While Faizal Khan and Chand Mohammed offered namaz, their two aides Alok Ratan and Nilesh Gupta clicked their pictures, which went viral on social media.

The incident evoked strong reactions from Hindu community with several priests terming it as an attempt to disturb peace in the state.

The accused have been booked under Sections 153-A, 295 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code.

“Their act has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community…We have a concern that these photographs do not get misused or if there is any foreign funding behind this incident. This should also be probed if this act intended to stir communal tensions,” read the FIR.

BJP leader and member of UP Legislative Assembly Shrikant Sharma also termed the incident as an attempt to incite communal tension.

Assuring strict action, he said, “There are some people who are trying to spoil the environment in Uttar Pradesh. They cannot digest the way we are operating. So, in some or other way, they are attempting to incite communal tension.”
