GHMC poll results: No clear winner yet but BJP makes big gains

The BJP has emerged not just as the main challenger to TRS but it has also displaced Owaisi’s AIMIM by claiming the 2nd spot by winning 46 divisions.

New Delhi: With results of 146 of the 150 divisions in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) declared, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has emerged as single largest party by winning 56 divisions, however it has been severely dented by the BJP.

The BJP has emerged not just as the main challenger to TRS but it has also displaced Owaisi’s AIMIM by claiming the 2nd spot by winning 46 divisions.

Celebrations broke out at the BJP office in Hyderabad over party’s stupendous show in the Municipal Corporations.

AIMIM is on third spot with victory in 42 divisions. The Congress party, which has been pushed to the sidelines, has two divisions to its credit.

TRS minister KT Rao said the party fell short of 20-25 seats. “We will address the issues on why we haven’t received a desired outcome,” he said.

The initial results show that the AIMIM could emerge as a kingmaker as it looks unlikely for TRS to secure the magic number – 76.
