In the event, however, Owaisi also lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi challenging him to announce that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise will not be carried out during his rule in the Centre.

"I am not surprised by stand taken by Owaisiji. If we say the sun rises from the east, then Owaisi saab would say it rises from the west. But I want to assure Owaisiji too that the NPR is very different from the NRC and it has nothing to do with it," Shah said.

The complaint, filed by advocate Pradeep Gupta, also includes the names of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi and journalist Ravish Kumar.

Addressing a gathering in Karimnagar in July, Owaisi had said, "People scare those who get scared easily and are scared of those who know how to scare them. Why do they (RSS) hate me? It is because they have not been able to overcome the '15 minutes' statement made by me."
