New Delhi: To curb the spread of Coronavirus in Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced extension of the lockdown in containment zones as well as bi-weekly restrictions till the end of next month. Under bi-weekly curbs, complete shutdown is observed two days every week.

“We are extending the two-day lockdown every week in the state, which was in force till July 31, till August 31,” West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced today.

The next lockdown is scheduled on July 29. In August, there will be strict lockdown across the state on 2nd, 5th, 8th, 9th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th and 31st, Banerjee added. The lockdown in the containment zone has also been extended till August 31, CM Mamata Banerjee said today.

Only essential services allowed during lockdown

“The bi-weekly lockdown will mostly be observed on Saturdays and Sundays. If any festival falls on these days, lockdown will be enforced on some other days,” she said.

All government and private offices, commercial establishments, public and private transport will remain shut. Only the essential services will be functional. Petrol pumps are allowed to open. The functioning of courts, work in agricultural fields and tea gardens, intra-state and inter-state goods movements and home delivery of cooked food will be permitted.
