No patriot can stay in a party which insults the slogan of ‘Jai Shri Ram’: Smriti Irani attacks Mamata Banerjee

In her brief remarks, a visibly upset Mamata Banerjee said it was a government programme and not that of a political party.

New Delhi: BJP leader Smriti Irani while addressing a rally in Howrah, West Bengal on Sunday  said that Prime Minister provided five kg rice and one kg dal for 80 crore people of the country for eight months but Bengal TMC looted it during lockdown.

She further said,”People will not support a political party which makes them fight among themselves & hates the Central govt for its own profit. No patriot can stay for even a single minute in a party which insults the slogan of ‘Jai Shri Ram.”

Here is why Mamata Banerjee did not deliver her speech

This statement comes a day after Banerjee did not deliver her speech “in protest” at an event at Victoria Memorial to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose after ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans were raised when she was invited to speak.

She said “government programme should have some dignity” and it “is not fair to insult somebody whom you have invited”. The event was presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
