Noida man booked for extorting money from public, in name of PMO & ED

The chargesheet was filed against the accused Mohammad Kashif under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Ghaziabad’s special PMLA court on July 28.

New Delhi: A chargesheet was filed against Noida resident on Wednesday for duping & hoodwinking people in name of his fake connection with top offices of the country, including Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The investigative agency, in its probe, found that the man used to brag about his ‘connections’ in the PMO & ED offices and then extorted money from common people. While luring people, he described himself as someone close to the officers in both offices – PMO & ED.

The chargesheet was filed against the accused Mohammad Kashif under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Ghaziabad’s special PMLA court on July 28. The chargesheet was taken cognizance of, by the court on July 31, the ED said in a statement.

The case of money laundering was filed against him, based on an FIR with Uttar Police, where the complainant accused him of extorting money from general public on pretext of fake promises. The accused promised general public to get their work done from government offices & ministries and in return collected huge sum of money.

The ED officials informed that it raided the Noida sector – 107 residence of the man and seized more than 1.10 crore cash. Also, cash counting machine and documents were impounded by the ED sleuths.

Kashif reportedly misled a business family with his tactics and ‘extorted’ Rs 1 crore from them while promising assistance in cases lodged against them.

Kashif is also understood to have amassed huge wealth from such extortion practice and he also has a real estate property worth Rs 1.78 crore. He reported paid over Rs 1 crore in cash for buying this realty project.

He also led a luxurious life with money collected from illegitimate sources and flaunted many expensive items including watches, clothes & expensive cars.
