New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured strong action against those who allegedly harassed nuns belonging to a Kerala-based congregation during their train journey via Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.

“Those involved in the Jhansi nuns harassment incident will be brought before the law. I want to assure the people of Kerala that the culprits behind this incident will be brought to justice at the earliest” Amit Shah said while addressing election rally today.

The incident, which took place on Friday, has generated outrage, and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan wrote to Mr Shah earlier, asking for strict action.

“Such incidents tarnish the image of the nation, and its ancient tradition of religious tolerance. Such incidents require utmost condemnation by the Union government. I would request your kind intervention to instruct authorities to take strict action on all groups, individuals who disrupt, impair the freedom of individual rights guaranteed by the constitution,” the Chief Minister wrote.
