Punjab: Cong leader Sukhpal Khaira arrested by ED over money laundering charges

Reports suggest that he was being investigated over drugs trafficking case in 2015. After some rounds of question, the ED apprehended the politician.

New Delhi: Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira was on Thursday arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in case related to money laundering.

The Congress leader was arrested by the Delhi team of the Enforcement Directorate. Reports suggest that he was being investigated over drugs trafficking case in 2015. After some rounds of question, the ED apprehended the politician.

From Cong to AAP, then back to Congress 

Khaira had joined the Aam Aadmi Party in December 2015 after quitting Congress. He was unceremoniously removed as the Leader of Opposition of Punjab Assembly in 2018, following which he turned rebel and resigned from primary membership of the party in 2019.

He also floated his own outfit Punjabi Ekta Party and unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Bathinda seat.

Six years after quitting Congress, Khaira returned back to the grand old party.
