Rahul Gandhi walks out of defence panel meet, calls it ‘wastage of time’

Rahul Gandhi walks out of defence panel meet; Congress MP alleged that the Parliamentary Committee on Defence’s time was being wasted in discussing armed forces’ uniform instead of crucial issue of national security.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other Congress lawmakers walked out of a Parliamentary Panel meeting on defence on Wednesday, sparking huge political blamegame.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Parliamentary Committee on Defence’s time was being wasted in discussing armed forces’ uniform instead of crucial issue of national security, PTI reported quoting sources.

The agency report said the issue of uniforms of the Army, Navy and Air Force was being discussed in the presence of the Chief of Defence Staff Gen
Bipin Rawat when Rahul Gandhi intervened to say that instead of discussing this, the political leadership should discuss the issues of national security and how to strengthen the forces who are fighting the Chinese in Ladakh.

Rahul Gandhi wanted to raise the matter of Chinese aggression at LAC and how our soldiers can be better equipped to deal with dragon in Ladakh. But, the panel chairman Jual Oram (BJP) reportedly disallowed the Congress MP.

Following this, Rahul decided to walk out. Along with him, Congress members Rajeev Satav and Revanth Reddy also left the meeting, sources said.

The BJP MPs were taken by surprise and later one of them also questioned Mr Gandhi’s ‘intentions’.
