Say no to panic, yes to precautions: PM Modi urges citizens to avoid large gatherings
In a series of tweets, PM Modi said that no minister of the central government will travel abroad in the upcoming days and also urged the people to also avoid non-essential travel.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Naredra Modi has called upon the countrymen not to panic and take precautions to stay away from the COVID-19 – Novel Corona virus infection.
In a tweet, Mr Modi said, the government is fully vigilant about the situation. Mr Modi said, no Union Minister will travel abroad in the upcoming days and also urged the countrymen to also avoid non-essential travel.
The Prime Minister said, we can break the chain of spread and ensure safety of all by avoiding large gatherings. He said, multiple steps have been proactively taken to ensure safety of all across ministries and states. He said, these steps are wide-ranging, from suspension of visas to augmenting health care capacities.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan today informed the Lok Sabha about various steps taken by the government on containing the spread of Corona Virus. Minister while participating in the discussion on the issue, said that initially passengers coming from abroad were screened at 7 major airports in the country, and today they are being screened at 30 airports and all the passengers are screened in detail.
During the discussion, the Members have expressed concerns of stranded pilgrims, students, labourers and migrants to various countries suffering Coronavirus outbreak.
Earlier, yesterday, World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak as a Pandemic. Briefing newspersons in geneva, WHO DG, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that he is alarmed by the spread and severity of the outbreak.
A disease is called pandemic when it is prevalent across the continents. Global health experts say that declaring a pandemic is charged with major political and economic ramifications. The last pandemic was declared by WHO during the outbreak of H1N1 influenza in 2009.
Rashtrapati Bhavan will remain closed for exploratory tour visits from tomorrow until further notice as a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus.
Besides, the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum Complex and the Change of Guard ceremony will also not be open to the public until further notice.
