
New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old man allegedly chopped off his wife’s hand after she secured a job as a nurse at a government hospital in West Bengal’s East Burdwan district.
According to officials, it is said that he feared she would be posted in some other city.
The man is identified as Sher Md Sheikh, and is absconding after the incident.
Meanwhile his wife, a 24-year-old victim, Renu Khatun, is currently undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Durgapur city.

The officials said that Khatun married Sheikh in October 2017, runs a grocery store at Kojalsa village in Ketugram area of the district.
It was in 2018 that Renu Khatun had enrolled herself in a nursing course, and got a job at a private nursing home in West Bengal’s Durgapur
After which she had tried for a government job against Sheikh’s wishes.
This year on May 28th, Renu was selected following which an argument broke out between the couple.
The Official said that during the preliminary investigations it has been found that Sheikh did not want his wife to take up the job as he feared that she could be posted in a different city.
When was she attacked?
Khatun was attacked by Sheikh, and two of his accomplices while she was sleeping at around 1 am on Sunday, the official said.
The Officials said that the accused had first put a pillow on her face to muffle her screams and then chopped off her right hand.
However, the police are yet to recover the weapons that was used to chop her hand.
A complaint has been registered following a complaint filed by Khatun’s father.
