New Delhi: As the nation battles exponential rise in population, burdening the already stretched infrastructure, the Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan on Saturday made an appeal to UP CM to launch a campaign against population explosion and suggested to alter the Panchayat election framework in the state, to dissuade people from ‘having multiple children’.

Sanjeev Balyan - Yogi Adityanath

Balyan wrote a letter to CM Yogi Adityanath and said, “soaring population has become a big challenge in the state. Due to this, people of the state are being deprived of basic and essential resources.”

Underlining the need for population control campaign, the Union Minister wrote, “From upcoming Panchayat elections, an initiative can be launched under which people with more than two children shouldn’t be allowed to contest polls.”

To support his claims, Sanjeev Balyan also cited the example of Uttarakhand.

Uttaranchal government had enacted a law under which people with more than 2 children would lose their candidature. However, this was challenged in court.
