“New farm laws will constitute the foundation of new phase of agricultural growth in the country and it will make the farmers more empowered and free them of any bondages,” Tomar said in the 8 page letter, allaying their apprehensions.

New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday wrote a letter to protesting farmers and urged them to have faith in agricultural reforms undertaken by Modi government.

“New farm laws will constitute the foundation of new phase of agricultural growth in the country and it will make the farmers more empowered and free them of any bondages,” Tomar said in the 8 page letter, allaying their apprehensions.

Agriculture Minister also implored the farmers not to believe in the “white lies” spread by some vested interests about issues like continuation of MSP, APMCs and about contract farming in India.

He has urged the farmers to not believe in such lies.

The minister reiterated that the government was ready to provide a written assurance on MSP and said that state governments can be allowed to levy tax on private markets outside the APMCs.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah held a meet with Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal and Narendra Singh Tomar over the farm laws.

The meeting was held at BJP head office in Delhi and was also attended by the party’s general secretaries CT Ravi, Dushyant Gautam and Arun Singh among others.
