Top 100 Politicians on Twitter: PM Modi remains No 1, Gambhir & Swamy in Top 10; Akhilesh most ‘influential’ satrap

In Twitteet’s findings, Narendra Modi has once again topped the overall Indian Twitter rankings with over 8 million engagements. The list of Top 100 Politicians on Twitter has been prepared, as per their Twitter engagement in January 2021.

New Delhi: With digital medium and technology pervading our daily lives, politics has also undergone a sea-change. From public rallies to roadshows, politicians-people connect in today’s age has gone digital. Leaders across political spectrum choose to communicate with supporters and workers via social media and other digital tools.

In a bid to measure the scale of popularity of tech-savvy politicians, Twitteet, a social media analytics firm, has collated data and decoded their connect with public via their Twitter engagement on the microblogging website.

First ever ‘Twitter survey’ of Indian Politicians

In Twitteet’s findings, Narendra Modi has once again topped the overall Indian Twitter rankings with over 8 million engagements.

The list of Top 100 Politicians on Twitter has been prepared, as per their Twitter engagement in January 2021.

Sharing his insights on collation of data, Twitteet co-founder Sandeep Amar said, “Increasingly political parties and leaders – across spheres – are beginning to use social media as a way to reach out to the people. Many parties weigh the social media following and impact of candidates when awarding tickets for elections. We thought it relevant to put out a list of the top 100 every month from the data we collate daily.”

BJP leaders occupy 5 positions of Top 7 rankings

BJP dominated the Top 10 list with PM Modi, Amit Shah, Yogi Adityanath and Sambit Patra taking 4 of the top 5 positions and 7 of the top 10 positions on Twitter engagement.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was at #2 with nearly 2.6 million engagements, followed by UP CM Yogi Adityanath (2.1 million), Home Minister Amit Shah (1.76 million) and party spokesperson Sambit Patra (1.11 million engagements) at #3, #4, and #5 respectively.

BJP President JP Nadda, Cabinet Minister Piyush Goyal and MP CM Shivraj Chouhan figured at 7, 8 and #9 position respectively.

While BJP politicians dominate the list, the ranking within BJP leaders is quite interesting. Besides Party Spokesperson Sambit Patra, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir and Subramaniam Swamy have made it to the top 10.

Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav got #6 spot with 10.8 lakh engagement while RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav stood at # 10 with 5.63 lakh engagements. They were only leaders other than BJP & Congress to figure in Top 10.

Top Among the non-BJP/Non INC politicians, Akhilesh Yadav topped followed by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister, AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal at #3.

Twitteet has also published the Engagement ratios of politicians. This is the ratio of total engagement by followers. Here is list of the Politicians who engage more actively with their followers. Mumbai BJP’s Kirit Somaiya tops this list, followed by Yashwant Sinha. Agriculture Minster NS Tomar is at #4 given his pivotal role handling the farmers protests.
