PM Modi, ministers & MPs to take 30% pay cut for 1 year; MPLAD funds suspended for 2 years

The President, Vice President, Governors of States have voluntarily decided to take a pay cut as a social responsibility. The money will go to Consolidated Fund of India: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Monday approved an Ordinance amending the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954 for reducing salary by 30 per cent for one year. It will come into effect from 1st of this month.

Union Cabinet meeting underway, social distancing seen

“As part of our social responsibilities towards our citizens, Prime Minister, Union Cabinet Ministers and every MP agreed to cut their salary by 30 per cent for a year,” said Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday.

“The President, the Vice President, the Governors of the States have also voluntarily decided to take a pay cut as a social responsibility. The money will go to the Consolidated Fund of India,” said Prakash Javadekar.

MPLAD Fund suspended for 2 years

The Union cabinet has approved temporary suspension of MPLAD Fund of MPs during 2020-21 & 2021-22 for managing health and the adverse impact of Covid-19 outbreak. The consolidated amount of MPLAD Funds for 2 years – Rs 7900 crores will go to consolidated Fund of India, said Union minister Prakash Javadekar.
