UP’s Mission Shakti to encompass old age home women, govt will ensure their safety and security

The programmes began from the old age home run by the social welfare department in Moradabad. Here, the women were made aware by showing clips related to ‘Mission Shakti’ through different slogans, rangoli, wall painting and LED video vans.

New Delhi: Weeks after launching ‘Mission Shakti’ campaign aimed at ensuring safety and dignity of women and girls, Uttar Pradesh government has emphasised the need for better monitoring and security of women in old age homes, widows’ shelter homes and Nari Niketan.

All these women will also be given training under different awareness programs so that they can become self-reliant and self-dependent.

The UP government has launched mega drive to reach out to women in these old age homes and educate and inform them about the rights and privileges they are entitled to. At some places, the students are being made a police officer for one day, while at others, information related to women’s safety is being given through street plays, webinars, etc.

The programmes began from the old age home run by the social welfare department in Moradabad. Here, the women were made aware by showing clips related to ‘Mission Shakti’ through different slogans, rangoli, wall painting and LED video vans.

Mission Shakti

The ambitious ‘Mission Shakti’ campaign was launched on first day of Navratri (October 17, 2020) and will be continued for six months till the ‘Basant Navratri’, April 2021.

Under the Mission Shakti scheme, over 1,500 police stations across the state will now have a separate glass room where aggrieved women can lodge complaints in privacy. In these rooms, a female constable will be handling the complaints and the action against the perpetrators will be taken with urgency.
