Yogi govt cracks down on spurious liquor manufacturers, to attach their properties

Uttar Pradesh government has decided to attachproperties of those found guilty of manufacturing illicit liquor. Strict action will be imposed on violators which will include heavy fines against accused. 

New Delhi: In a bid to set up a deterrent against manufacturing of spurious liquor in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to attach
properties of those found guilty of manufacturing illicit liquor, top official sources said.

As per reports, at least 10 people in different parts of the state have died due to consumption of illicit liquor.

As many as 6 people died on Friday after allegedly consuming illicit liquor in the Brajpuri and Garh Mukteshwar areas of Hapur. While families of the deceased claimed that the deaths were due to the liquor, the UP Police have dismissed them.

In a separate incident on the same day, 4 people died and at least 5 others were hospitalised after consuming illicit liquor in Amilia village in Prayagraj, District Magistrate Bhanu Chandra Goswami said.

In both cases, samples of liquor were sent for testing.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday hit out at the UP government over the same issue, saying that it was unable to handle the problem.
