Yogi govt prepares roadmap for employing 17 lakh returned migrants, self-help groups engage 29,000 women

Yogi Adityanath govt has till now prepared roadmap for employing about 17 labourers and workers in the state as per their skills.

New Delhi: At a time, when the employment opportunities are drying up and many state governments are still trying to facilitate return of their migrants, the UP government is leading by example.

Yogi govt’s proactive and prompt action to evacuate migrants stranded in other states is no secret. Now, that most migrant labour has returned, the state administration has moved one step ahead – as promised, it is preparing a roadmap for providing employment opportunities to about 20 lakh migrant workers, who returned to their home state.

According to reports, the state govt has till now prepared blueprint for employing about 17 labourers and workers as per their skills. The state govt is also conducting ‘skill mapping’ of workers to find out their suitability & efficacy in the workplace. It has signed MoUs with 4 industry bodies including FICCI, IIA, Small industries Bharti & NAREDCO under which about 11 lakh workers will get employment.

Apart from this, about 4.50 lakh people will get employment opportunities under MNREGA.

Self-help groups, a unique model to follow

During the Lockdown, the self-help groups have emerged as great support system for medical fraternity. These self-help groups, comprising mainly of women, prepared masks, sanitisers and PPE kits. Till now, more than 3.60 self-help groups have been created. After the exodus of migrants from other cities, these self-help groups have welcomed about 29, 254 women in the group.

In some districts, women migrants have also been given employment in other sectors, which include 1615 in Agra, 1573 in Gorakhpur, 1012 in Hamirpur, 3102 in Mathura, 2781 in Muradabad and 2038 in Prayagraj.
