Yogi govt’s BC Sakhi initiative take shape, over 55,000 women candidates selected

In the first phase, a total of 56,875 BC ‘Sakhis’ have been shortlisted for training in a total of 58,532 Gram Panchayats of the state. Over 2,16,000 applications were received for the same.

New Delhi: The Banking Correspondent (BC) Sakhi launched by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has started taking shape and is set to be rolled out soon. Under the scheme, over 56,000 BC Sakhis are being roped in to promote rural banking.

In the first phase, a total of 56,875 BC ‘Sakhis’ have been shortlisted for training in a total of 58,532 Gram Panchayats of the state. Over 2,16,000 applications were received for the same.

.Work related to their training will start soon.UP govt aims to connect Sakhi with the banks so that digital transactions can be done in every village of the state.

For the first time in the rural areas of the state, the efforts of CM Yogi promise not only a large number of jobs to women, but banking transactions in villages have also been encouraged.

CM Yogi announced this unique programme, 8 months ago which is set to provide benefit of banking facility to the villagers in their villages and homes.

State’s Additional Chief Secretary Rural Development Manoj Kumar Singh has instructed all district magistrates (DMs) to start training of shortlisted women for ‘BC Sakhi’. These women will get one-week training in 30-30 batches in every district.

These ‘Sakhis’ will have to pass the examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance under RBI instructions. After this, ‘Sakhis’ will be selected in various banks and they will be given laptops and other required stuff. Through this, these ‘Sakhis’ will go to the villages and provide the benefit of banking facilities to the people.

State govt has also decided to give 2 sets of uniforms to Business Correspondent Sakhi (BC Sakhi) free of cost.
