Yogi Govt’s emphasis on water conservation results in improved groundwater levels in 35 districts

Ever since Yogi Adityanath took over the reins of Uttar Pradesh as the Chief Minister, the conservation of water, maintenance of its quality and better usage have been one of the most focused areas of the government.

New Delhi: Ever since Yogi Adityanath took over the reins of Uttar Pradesh as the Chief Minister, the conservation of water, maintenance of its quality and better usage have been one of the most focused areas of the government.

In its efforts to realise the above objective, the government not only ensured the completion and operation of multiple decade-long pending projects aimed at conserving water but also worked towards saving every drop of water through the construction of farm ponds, multi-purpose ponds on the banks of rivers, check-dams and more.

Owing to the sustained efforts of the Yogi Adityanath government in the span of the last five years, as many as 25 development blocks of the state have been pulled out of the ‘dark-zone’ slot signifying depleting ground water levels and have witnessed a remarkable improvement in terms of availability of groundwater.

Success achieved through various measures

To improve the quality and presence of ground water, the Yogi government not only worked to ensure the effective implementation of ‘Atal Bhujal’ scheme and ‘Catch the Rain’ scheme but also simultaneously made elaborate arrangements for carrying out the exercise of Rain Water Harvesting at various institutions, including state government buildings.

In addition, two innovative and effective models of water conservation, one in Chitrakoot and the other in Varanasi were devised and implemented. Under the Varanasi model, the Yogi government took up the task of taking rainwater directly to the ground through boring old hand pumps in Varanasi and other adjoining districts. Under the Chitrakoot model, the government built check-dams and took measures to curb water-logging.
