Yogi govt’s exemplary fight against Covid-19 wins praise from WHO

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh government’s effective strategy to contain and prevent the spread of deadly Coronavirus has won praise from World Health Organisation (WHO). The global health body has appreciated state govt’s Covid-19 management especially in tracking high-risk contacts. Over 70,000 front-line health workers worked across the state to reach out to high-risk contacts of COVID-19 positive cases.

“The UP government’s strategic response to COVID-19 by stepping up contact tracing efforts is exemplary and can serve as a good example for other states”, said Dr. Roderico Ofrin, WHO Country Representative.

The global recognition of Yogi govt’s efforts comes as endorsement of its sustained and consistent effort in containing the deadly virus. The state has already set benchmarks domestically, by conducting largest testing for Corona samples.

“The WHO team provided technical support to the state government to boost contact tracing efforts and strengthen the capacity of field teams through training. Field monitors assessed the quality of contact tracing of 58,000 COVID-19 positive cases in 75 districts and found that 93 percent of the high-risk contacts were traced and tested. This exercise helped the government in strengthening contact tracing in 17 districts where more than 12 000 high-risk contacts were missed for testing”, stated Dr. Madhup Bajpai, Regional Team Leader, Uttar Pradesh Region, WHO-NPSP.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has repeatedly urging citizens to follow social distancing norms during festive season and directing officials for
effective compliance of Covid-19 norms by all.

Remarkably, government’s intentions on fighting Covid-19 are visible on ground. During Diwali, the state government had deployed teams at bus stations, railway stations and airports to identify and isolated suspected cases. All those coming from Delhi and other hotspots regions were tested at their homes to prevent spread of Coronavirus.

In wake of surge in Covid numbers, the state government has also issued alert to all districts in view of the upcoming Chhath Puja. The district administration has been told to stay alert and vigilant for preventing any fresh surge in virus.

Over 1.50 lakh Covid-19 tests in UP, highest in the country

Currently, the active cases in Uttar Pradesh are 22, 603 and the recovery rate stands at 94.15 percent.

Yogi reviews Covid precautions

To augment its fight against the pandemic, UP government has further stepped up Covid-19 testing and tracing of contacts. It has also urged UP residents to follow guidelines. The state already holds a record of conducting most number of tests in the country. On an average, more than 1.50 lakh Covid tests are being done in the state daily, highest in the country.
