Budget 2022-2023: ‘Salaried, Middle Class’ memes flood Twitter as FM keeps tax slabs unchanged

The salaried class or the middle-class citizens were expecting some income tax relief this year, owing to the economic damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

New Delhi: Soon after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her fourth Union Budget, the social media started buzzing with various hashtags pertaining to common man. The Finance Minister’s Budget maintained ‘silence’ on income tax slabs and had nothing populist and that led to netizens creating a storm on the internet. Various trends like #IncomeTax, #Salaried & #Middle Class started floating on social media with many sharing hilarious & quirky memes.

One may wonder why ‘salaried’ meme took the top spot on the micro-blogging site. The main reason was the salaried class or the middle-class citizens were expecting some income tax relief this year, owing to the economic damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Individual taxpayers contribute to almost 35-40% of direct tax revenues. However, the Finance Minister chose not to give any relief in income tax bracket in Union Budget 2022-2023.

Thus, to capture the reaction of the salaried class or middle class, several memes flooded Twitter. Take look at the best ones:

Notably, Sitharaman announced that taxpayers can now update their Income Tax returns within two years. Also, both Centre and State government employees’ tax deduction limit will be increased from 10% to 14%. This will be practiced to aid the social security benefits of state government employees and consider them equal to the Central government employees. She also announced that a digital rupee will be introduced by the Reserve Bank of India in 2022-2023.

Meanwhile, Sitharaman presented her fourth budget that aims to maintain the world’s fastest-growing economy tag for India.
