Lok Sabha was adjourned till March 2 when 2nd phase of Budget 2020 session of the Parliament will commence.The House will now meet between March 2 and April 3 during which Union Budget will be taken up for passage.
PM Modi said, Government has given a lot of emphasis on four sectors agriculture, infrastructure, textiles and technology in the budget to increase the employment generation.
In the longest Union Budget speech in history, Sitharaman talked about tax regime, finance, agriculture, irrigation, water, sanitation, healthcare, education, infrastructure, women, digital connectivity among others.
With an emphasis on capacity building and empowerment of marginalised sections of society including farmers, the Union Budget intends to ensure, as said by Sitharaman, that "our people should be gainfully employed.
The speech, which lasted approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes, is the longest ever in terms of duration by any finance minister.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, presenting her second Budget today said that Aspirational India, economic development and a caring society for all are the three prominent themes of the Union Budget 2020-21.
The Finance Minister said the NDA government is "committed to Open Defecation Free (ODF) plus in order to sustain ODF behavior and to ensure no one is left behind."
Presenting the Union Budget in the Lok Sabha, Sitharaman said, "Rs 12,300 crore have been approved to Swachh Bharat mission for 2020-21."
According to the Union Finance Ministry, GST revenue collection for January 2020 stands second-highest monthly collection since the implementation of the new tax regime. The total number of GSTR 3B Returns filed for the month of December up to January 2020 is 83 lakh (provisional).
"The digital revolution, which has placed India in a unique leadership position, globally will see the next wave. We shall aim to achieve seamless delivery of services through digital governance," Sitharaman said.
