Dunith Wellalage and Charith Asalanka pick apart India’s batting line-up with 5 and 4 wickets, respectively.

New Delhi: The Indian inning was wrapped up by Sri Lankan bowlers at the score of 213 after a crucial 10th wicket partnership between Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj that added 27 important runs for India and took the total past 200. Sri Lanka will now have to score 214 runs to win this game and they have 50 overs to do so.

10:36 PM: D Silva walks back to the pavilion after throwing his wicket on Jadeja’s delivery. His inning ended after he hit the ball straight to the fielder and gifted the Indian spinner his third wicket of the game. He played an impressive knock of 41 of 66 balls.

10:14 PM: 20-year-old Wellagagle is now quickly adding runs and keeping Sri Lanka’s chase alive. He has already scored 41 of 65 balls and if India fails to stop him, the match might slip away real soon.

10:09 PM: Despite more than half of the team back to the dugout, the Sri Lankan middle order is not willing to give up on their hopes as they have started to counterattack India. After his exceptional bowling Performance, Dunith Wellalage is now dominating India with the Bat as well while taking his side closer to the target. He along with his partner De Silva has added 50+ runs for their side and both are trying their best to bring Sri Lanka back into the game once again.

9:50: PM: With this wicket of Sri Lankan captain Shanaka, Jadeja is now officially the Highest wicket-taker for India in the history of the Asia Cup. He dethroned former cricketer Irfan Pathan to achieve this feat and now has 23 wickets in 18 Asia Cup Matches.

9:40 PM: Ravindra Jadeja was brought into the attack and he wasted no time in castling Sri Lankan Captain D Shanaka who ended up throwing his big wicket in the hands of Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma who made no mistakes in the slips. Shanaka Scored 9 Runs off 13 Balls.

9:16 PM: Back-to-back wickets for India as Kuldeep gets his second wicket in the form of Charith Asalanka. The hosts are now five wickets down while still needing 138 more runs in the remaining 30 overs. Asalanka scored 22 of 35 Balls.

9:11 PM: Kuldeep Yadav’s stock ball does the trick once again for India and settled Sadeera Samarawikrama has lost his wicket. He walks towards the dressing room after scoring 17 off 31 deliveries.

9:00 PM: It’s the 14th over and Fifty is up for Sri Lanka. After 3 early blows, the Lankan innings are finally looking stable with Sadeera.S and Charith Asalanka trying to keep them in the game.

8:45 PM: India wasted their first review after challenging the umpire for a caught behind call on Kuldeep Yadav’s delivery in the 13th over. With just one more review left, Rohit & Co will now have to be extremely cautious while using it, specifically in this low-scoring encounter.

 The match was interrupted at the 47 overs mark through the first innings but was quickly resumed without any overs lost.

Earlier, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first.

Both the openers once again gave team India a strong start by adding 80 runs for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma completes his 51st ODI fifty and also becomes the second fastest player to reach 10000 ODI runs, second only to his countryman Virat Kohli.

India was looking strong at 80 for 0 but was quickly reduced to 91 for 3 in the span of 5 overs as the 20-year-old Dunith Wellalage removed Subhman Gill (19), Virat Kohli (3) and Rohit Sharma (53) in the span of his 18 legal deliveries.

KL Rahul (39) tried to rebuild the Indian innings with Ishan Kishan (33) by adding 63 runs for the 4th wicket partnership was also removed by Wellalage.

Wellalage completes his maiden fifer by Hardik Pandya (5) and finishes off with his career-best figure of 5 for 40 in his full quota of 10 overs.

Wellalage’s partner in crime, Charith Asalanka, also got 4 wickets under his name, which includes the important scalp of Ishan Kishan (33) and back-to-back wickets of Jasprit Bumrah (5) and Kuldeep Yadav (0), reducing team India to 186 for 9.

The left-arm all-rounder Axar Patel (26), showed some late flurry to take the Indian total over the 200-run mark. He lost his wicket to Maheesh Theekshana, marking India’s today innings as the first-ever instance in ODI cricket where India lost all 10 wickets to the spinners.

Indian bowlers are going to have a tough job to defend the title and book their place in the finals.

Notably, Sri Lanka, who are on a 13-match undefeated streak, put on a dominant show with the ball without the services of their star bowler Wanindu Hasaranga, who was sidelined after testing positive for COVID-19.
