New Delhi: A young Indian team led by NCA head VVS Laxman under the captaincy of Shubman Gill will spearhead the challenge in India’s upcoming tour against Zimbabwe. The tour to Zimbabwe is scheduled to start from July 6th. Shubhman Gill who was taken as a reserve opener for the ICC T20 World Cup will join the team directly from Barbados.

Alongside Gill, many young Indian talents like Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Tushar Deshpande are also a part of the team. On the other hand, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed will join the team from Barbados. Currently, the Indian team is stuck in the Caribbean after a devastating hurricane struck the Caribbean.

India has become the undisputed champion of the T20 after winning the ICC T20 World Cup. It also ended India’s 11-year-long itch for an ICC trophy. Heading into the Zimbabwe tour, the team will be high on confidence from the thumping victory against the Proteas.

No Virat or Rohit!

This will be perhaps the first time that India will be on a tour where the familiar faces of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not be in Indian jerseys playing for their country. Also will be missing the wicket-to-wicket bowling of India’s reliant left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja.

Virat, Rohit and Jadeja all took simultaneous retirements from T20Is once the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 concluded. However, the retirement of these three experienced players will bring in many young talents to the team who can be part of the playing XI. India has a talent pool of prodigal cricketing talents and it is time that the next generation take the nation forward.
