New Delhi: Facebook-owned instant messaging application WhatsApp has officially launching the much-awaited ‘Disappearing Messages’ feature with a time limit of seven days. The users can now update their WhatsApp app and use the feature across all platforms including Android, iOS, desktop, KaiOS, and web. WhatsApp had earlier rolled out WhatsApp Pay, Always Mute and enhanced storage tool.

As per the information provided on the support page, enabling the settings will not affect the messages previously sent or received in chat. While the users can themselves turn disappearing messages on and off for individual chats, in a group chat, only the admins will get to use the feature.

With this, if a user does not open Whatsapp in the seven-day period, the message will disappear, but its preview might still be displayed in notifications until the App is opened. How to turn on the Disappearing Message feature on your WhatsApp:

  1. First, update your WhatsApp on either Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  2. After updating the app, open the WhatsApp Chat Window
  3. Tap on the contact name, you want to turn the disappearing message feature on.
  4. Select Disappearing Message on.
